Auckland Hospital ACHD Service

Auckland Hospital is the national centre for congenital heart disease surgery. This means that anyone who needs congenital heart surgery as an adult will have this done at Auckland Hospital. Some people will also come to Auckland for special tests such as heart catheters or MRI scans.

Wards and Clinics

Medical Inpatients

The main cardiology ward is Ward 31. Most medical ACHD inpatients will come to Ward 31, but some people may be admitted to CCU (ward 34).

If you are coming for a short stay you may come to ward 38, the cardiology day ward.

Surgical Inpatients

ACHD patients coming for surgery usually come to Ward 42. You are also likely to spend some time on CVICU (ward 48).

Outpatient Clinics

There are three ACHD medical outpatient clinics per week. These are usually attended by a team of senior nurses, trainee doctors and consultants. The ACHD psychologist runs two clinics per week in addition.

Patients can call the clinic regarding appointments on 093670000 ext 23592

Doctors can refer via CareConnect eReferrals, or can contact the team via the hospital switchboard 093670000.

Some of the clinics are at Greenlane Clinical Centre and some are at Starship in the Children’s Heart Clinic – check your appointment letter carefully to make sure you don’t turn up to the wrong place!

If you can’t make your clinic appointment please let us know with as much notice as possible: that way we can book an appointment for someone else.

In some situations you may be able to have a telemedicine appointment by phone or by video call such as Zoom – talk to your team if you would prefer this.

ACHD Staff

The ACHD service is staffed by a dedicated and experienced team of doctors and nurses, a psychologist and administrative staff. Click on the links below to meet the team. As you will see, we’re quite an international bunch!
