In patients with Transposition of the Great Arteries repaired with the Mustard or Senning operation, the right ventricle and tricuspid valve continue to supply the aorta and the systemic circulation. These patients are at risk of complications including:
progressive right ventricular dysfunction
progressive tricuspid regurgitation
atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death
sinus node dysfunction
atrial baffle complications
Many of these patients will over time develop major RV impairment and some will eventually require consideration for transplant listing. They require regular monitoring of RV size and function as well as functional capacity and sinus node function.
