All forms of congenital heart disease are different. The operations required are different and the longer term issues are different.
Many congenital heart conditions are not completely cured by surgery and there are important issues that need to be watched out for in the adult years. Some people will need further operations or heart catheter procedures as they get older. Others will need to go onto heart medications.
This page links to information sections for particular forms of congenital heart condition, so that you can find information that is relevant to you.
These sections provide brief background information and discuss 3 important problems that can occur in adulthood in people with these conditions. We also provide links to more in depth information from organisations such as the American Adult Congenital Heart Association.
