Traveling is an exciting part of life and people with congenital heart conditions shouldn’t miss out.
There are some things that are worth thinking about before you go, so that you can make sure your trip goes smoothly and you can be prepared if you do have any health issues while you are away. These include making sure you have an adequate supply of medications, working out if you need any special arrangements for flights or transfers, taking a copy (or a photo) of a recent clinic letter, and getting travel insurance.
If you are going on a long trip it’s also worth getting details of congenital heart specialists at your destination, just in case you need to be seen while you are away. Watch our video to find out more, or click on the links to access other helpful information (the first three are from congenital heart support groups and the last one is a medical paper that demonstrated that air travel is likely to be safe for many patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease).
