Taranaki Base Hospital

The ACHD service at Taranaki Base Hospital is run by cardiologist, Dr Ian Ternouth (that’s him on the bike!). Ian sees ACHD patients in his cardiology clinics and also runs a joint clinic with one of the team from Auckland, which usually happens twice a year.

If Dr Ternouth is away, then the other Taranaki cardiologist will be contacted, or alternatively the ACHD team in Auckland may be contacted.

The cardiology department at Taranaki Base Hospital has excellent echo sonographers who are experienced scanning ACHD patients. Other tests like holter monitors, exercise tests, CT scans and some MRI scans can also be done in Taranaki. Patients needing more complex cardiac MRI and congenital heart catheters will travel to Auckland for these tests.
